What a beautiful fall weekend in Chattanooga! We were happy to be a sponsor for the first EVER Chatt-a-Jack 31 paddle race. Our good friend, and world-class distance paddler, Ben Friberg organized the event as part of Chattanooga’s River Rocks outdoor celebration. Though mostly dominated by Stand Up Paddlers, the race also included Outrigger, Kayaker and Surfski categories.

We documented, shouted words of encouragement and refilled lots hydration packs, as 40+ paddlers from all over the US, paddled the Tennessee River from downtown Chattanooga, 31 miles downstream to Hale’s Bar Marina on Nick-a-jack Lake.

The morning started a little bleary, but when the sun rose and the fog lifted, we were all rewarded with a beautiful, sunny October day. The colorful fall leaves made for a morning of breathtaking scenery in the Tennessee River Gorge.

Congratulations to Michael Tavares for winning the Men’s 14’ SUP category, and to Ben for creating a successful, new event for River Rocks and the Southeast SUP community! We’re already looking forward to next year’s event. Here’s a quick little video re-cap we put together for our California friends at Riviera Paddlesurf:
